Scariest moment of being a mother (so far)

On Friday I was at my parents house spending the day with my sister, niece and nephew who were in town for the weekend. Ellie was sitting in the high chair munching on some bread (I didn't toast it this time) and had a HORRIBLY stuffy nose. She then started to choke a little bit, and she will do this sometimes, and I will just let her work it out herself, but it just wasn't stopping. I pulled her out of her high chair and flipped her so she was looking out. As I was pounding on her back, I heard her stop making any sound at all. After a few seconds, that seemed to last forever, she finally dislodged the bread and proceeded to throw up everything she had for dinner.

While my mom was cleaning up the mess, all I could do was hold her tight and cry. I knew I did the right thing instinctively, but to be that close was horribly scary. She had bread (toasted this time) again with dinner last night, and we all agreed the biggest culprit was the stuffy nose, so she had no passageway to get oxygen. All the more reason to be within range whenever your children are eating.
